Search Continues for Sorrento Sex Assault Suspect

SORRENTO — A woman was assaulted at gunpoint here near the intersection of Waukeag Avenue and Forest Street Friday and her attacker has continued to elude authorities.

Maine State Police Lt. Christopher Coleman described the suspect as a white man in his 30s with dirty blond, shoulder-length hair who is 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall. The man was driving an older model dark-green minivan, police said.

Coleman said the woman had been taking her regular walk at 9:30 a.m. when she saw the van parked on the side of the road.

The woman did not know the man, police said. The suspect told her his name was Tom and he was from Downeast.

The state police, with help from the Gouldsboro Police Department, set up roadblocks and were checking all vehicles leaving Sorrento Friday.

The Criminal Investigative Division II, which covers northern Maine has taken over the investigation.
