BLUE HILL — Two fishermen are safe after being pulled from the water when their fishing boat sank in Blue Hill Bay Monday morning. According to Marine Patrol Sgt. Dale Sprowl, lobsterman Jay Marsh and his sternman were aboard Marsh’s Little Miss Tillie south of Hardwood Island at about 8:30 a.m. when the boat’s propeller snagged a lobster buoy line. When the crew raised the outboard motor to try to free the line, a wave came over the stern and sank the boat. Marsh and his crew were reportedly in the water for more than 20 minutes before they were spotted and rescued by another fishing vessel, operated by Aaron Carter, and brought to the South Blue Hill pier. The two men were taken to Coastal Family Medicine in Blue Hill to warm up and were later released. The U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment in Belfast has begun a marine casualty investigation of the incident. For more of the latest news, pick up a copy of The Ellsworth American.
