MOUNT DESERT — Gary Michael Hooper, 60, died March 10, 2010 at his residence in Northeast Harbor. He was born in Rochester, N.Y, on Feb. 2, 1950, the son of Paul E. and Eleanor Louise (Tulley) Hooper.

Gary served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded multiple awards for his service to his country. He enjoyed scuba diving, surfing, fishing, and especially being on his boat with his bird friend, Henry the seagull, nearby.

He is survived by his daughters, Teresa M. Hooper of Millinocket and Monica L. Hooper of Madison; two grandchildren, Seth and Ashley; brothers Mark D. Hooper and his wife LeeAnn of Charleston, R.I., Roy P. Hooper of Warren, and Paul R. Hooper and his wife Marguerite of New Sharon; four nieces; two nephews; and several aunts and uncles. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
