BAR HARBOR — A landmark downtown lodging establishment will be offered for sale in a foreclosure auction later this month.

The Ledgelawn Inn, at 66 Mount Desert Street, will be auctioned off by Tranzon Auction Properties on Wednesday, Feb. 24, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The inn consists of a 21-room, 10,000-square-foot mansion and a 12-room, 5,500-square-foot carriage house.

Primary mortgage holder Machias Savings Bank filed foreclosure papers with the Hancock County Registry of Deeds late last month.

Inn owners Dan and Joan Mills, doing business as a limited liability company, purchased the historic, bed-and-breakfast in February 2005 for $2.8 million.
