The Marine Environmental Research Institute (MERI) in Blue Hill has two new temporary residents in its Ocean Aquarium Touch Tank, “Lena” (right) and “Betty,” a blue cull. Photo Courtesy of Marine Environmental Research Institute

Lena’s dark brown coloration with striking orange spots give her a leopard-like appearance while Betty displays a variety of blue tones — patterns and colors relatively uncommon among the Atlantic lobster population. Both lobsters weigh at least 1 1/4 pounds and are believed to be between 5 and 7 years old. Betty will eventually lose her status as a cull when her missing claw regenerates. Visitors are invited to meet Lena and Betty in MERI’s Ocean Aquarium before they return to the sea.
