BAR HARBOR – Trustees of the Mount Desert Island High School say they need to increase the school’s maintenance and equipment budget by at least $125,000 over the next five years for boiler replacements, parking lot re-paving and other capital projects.

Superintendent Rob Liebow has recommended that the budget be raised by at least $25,000 in each of the next five years to cover all of the most critical equipment and infrastructure needs. That would put the 2015 budget at least $425,000.

“If you don’t commit to at least a $25,000 increase (in each of the next five years), you’re never going to be able to do anything,” Mr. Liebow said. “By that time, things are going to be falling all around you, and the voters are going to be wondering why you didn’t even ask for more money. They can always turn you down, but at least you can ask.”
