BAR HARBOR — Kindergarten enrollment across the Mount Desert Island Regional School System (MDI RSS) are within the average this year. A total of 87 students were enrolled in district kindergartens as of Oct. 1, school superintendent Rob Liebow said. That is down from 100 last year and 105 the year before that, but nearly matches the 88 students who were enrolled in kindergarten in 2005. “It goes up and down,” Mr. Liebow said. “I don’t see anything dramatic in there.” There are a total of 549 students at MDI High School, down from 564 last year. However, the drop is not as steep as what was expected. Mr. Leibow’s office had projected there would be about 525 students enrolled at the high school this year. “There’s an influx of kids in and out,” he said.
