ELLSWORTH — Police are investigating a theft of nearly $4,000 from a local bank that was the result of a fictitious check being deposited into an account and cash being withdrawn, Lt. Harold Page reported.

A woman deposited a fictitious out-of-state check on Aug. 22 and took cash out on Aug. 23. The check came back to the Ellsworth bank on Aug. 27.

Computer Hacking

Police have charged a 13-year-old Ellsworth boy who allegedly used a laptop during study hall to hack into the school’s computer system Sept. 17.

Page said the boy got into the school’s Web site and started deleting items, which led some printers to stop working.

“He probably had no idea what he was doing,” said Page.

Police have charged the boy, who is a student at the Ellsworth Middle School, with aggravated criminal invasion of computer privacy, which is a felony.

Drunk Driving

A complaint about a vehicle operating erratically while coming into town on Route 1A early Saturday morning led to arrests for both driver and passenger.

Police arrested the operator, Anthony Lozada, 39, of Hancock on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant. Lozada’s blood alcohol level was allegedly .13 percent.

Lozada’s passenger, Arleen Torres-Santos, 39, of Hancock was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.

Theft

A python snake, valued at $90, was taken from a Central Street residence Friday.
