BLUE HILL — A festive public event will be held at Blue Hill Consolidated School on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to kick off Blue Hill’s year-long involvement in the Maine Community Heritage Project, a program of the Maine Historical Society. The evening will introduce the project, share Blue Hill’s plans for the project and invite community conversation about local history. All ages are welcome and light refreshments will be served. Blue Hill was one of eight communities selected to participate in the project this year, out of a field of 28 applicants. The project, funded by a federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, is in its second year of bringing together historical societies, schools, and libraries to explore, celebrate and increase access to local history. Participation in the project will enable the team to build a Web site that consolidates and provides extensive access to information about Blue Hill’s history. As part of the project, the Blue Hill team will digitize collections of historical items, write a narrative of the town’s history and create online exhibits. For more information, contact Tom Bjorkman at 374-3644 or Caroline Werth at 374-5179. For more community news, pick up a copy of The Ellsworth American. |
