AUGUSTA — The MDI Trojans traveled to Cony High School for a doubleheader on Saturday and took their first loss of the season.

Falmouth, one of the prominent teams in this year’s Class A ranks, dealt the Trojans a 3-1 defeat.

Falmouth opened with a 25-18 first game win and the Trojans responded by taking the second game 25-17. But Falmouth then picked up the intensity, winning the next two games 25-7 and 25-12.

MDI got 10 kills, 4 aces, 8 assists and 4 digs from Phelps; 4 kills and 12 digs from Molly Dow; 4 kills and 2 blocks from Kanu; 4 aces and 10 assists from Ross; and 16 digs and 4 assists from Carroll.

In the second match against Cony, the Trojans prevailed 3-1 with game scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-14 and 26-24.

For the Trojans, Kanu had 12 kills and 3 blocks; Phelps had 8 kills, 7 aces, 3 blocks and 9 assists; Molly Strout had 8 aces; Ross had 12 assists and 4 digs; and Carroll had 7 digs.
