BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School trustees voted unanimously Monday night to accept Roof Systems of Maine’s bid of $629,830 to replace the leaky rubber membrane that covers about half of the high school’s roof. Rob Liebow, superintendent of MDI Regional School System, said the work would begin within the next few weeks and that the contractor has promised it will be finished “before the snow flies.” “We’re looking at mid to late October,” Mr. Liebow said. With $55,000 to cover construction contingencies and $51,000 for architect and engineering fees and miscellaneous costs, the total price tag for the project is $735,830. In addition, the first-year interest payment on the money the trustees will borrow for the project is estimated at $20,000, which brings the estimated total the trustees needed to commit this year to $755,830.
