MOUNT DESERT — The SPCA of Hancock County will host a Pet Show & Fair on Sunday, July 19 (rain or shine, and tented) from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Mount Desert Elementary School ballfield in Northeast Harbor. All people and leased pets are welcome. At 1 p.m. there will be a one-on-one blessing of the animals, followed by the Pet Parade & Show at 1:30 p.m. All leashed pets are welcome to participate. Following the award ceremony, Dr. Marc Fine of Acadia Veterinary Hospital will lead participating dogs in a doggie biscuit competition. Biscuit bakers include Jo-Lyn Harper Merchant, Norma McPheters, Reiley Heist and Opal Curless of “Wag That Tail.” A dog agility training demonstration led by Gary & Barb Simons and Annie Judd will begin at 3:30 p.m. Carriage and pony rides contributed by Susan Arthur of Iron Slipper Farm will take place throughout the afternoon. Crazy Dave’s BBQ will be on site with a booth selling hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and beverages. Under the tent will be SPCA information booths, pre-sale tickets to the Fur Ball, raffle tickets for an eGO electric scooter and the following booths: Walkin’ the Dog with Lisa DeMuro; Colleen Vallee of Two Dogs-n-a-Rooster; Animal Face Painting by Lisa Hall; Dog Training Advice by Helen Tyson; A Doggie Kissing Booth with the lovely doggie ‘Cous Cous’; Mr. Paperback Books by Andra Faerell; Pet Portraits by Brooklin artist Susan Vanderlin; Jane A. Kelley, “cat whisperer” and author of the weekly cat advice column Paws and Effect, will be on hand to answer questions about cat behavior issues; Sled Dogs with Rich MacDonald; Downeast Dog Scouts Troop 159 with Robyn Douglas; Beagles of New England States (BONES) with Lori Pilvines; Bark Harbor with Diana de los Santos; MJ Penn with Reader Dogs Downeast; MDI Pet Food Pantry; Dog Biscuits for Sale; Pet and Owner Sno-Cones by Sharon Broom, Enoch Albert and Sharon Knopp; Reflexology by Michael MacDonald; and an incredible array of baked delights by Carol Schaefer, Tasha Higgins, Lanie Lincoln, Chrissie Strawbridge, Jane A. Kelley, Carol Fremont-Smith, Barb Steele, Heather Sawyer, Dianna Emory, Bethany Savage Klyver and more.
