BAR HARBOR — A total of 131 members of the Mount Desert Island High School’s Class of 2009 walked down the aisle to receive diplomas on Sunday, June 14. The Bernard Parady Gymnasium was packed wall to wall with family and friends. The group of 69 boys and 62 girls listened to remarks by State Representative Elsie Flemings, a Bar Harbor Democrat. Valedictorian Emily Crotteau, daughter of Faith Perkins and James Crotteau of Lamoine, and salutatorian Benjamin Dunbar, son of Danny and Florence Dunbar of Southwest Harbor, also spoke. Most seniors attended awards night on Thursday, June 11, at 7:30 p.m. The last day of regular classes at MDI High was Tuesday, June 16. Underclassmen took final exams on June 17 and 18. Friday, June 19, was the last day for teachers. All students were reminded to turn in their laptop computers. For more education news, pick up a copy of The Mount Desert Islander.
